Currently serving as the mission science phase lead for the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, she is a pivotal team member in the ongoing Perseverance rover mission, dedicated to seeking signs of ancient life and collecting rock samples on the Martian surface.

Dr. Krishnamurthy’s journey to this groundbreaking role began 13 years ago when she arrived in the United States with a singular dream of working at NASA. Despite facing skepticism due to her status as a foreign national on a visa, she persevered and achieved the seemingly impossible. In a recent Instagram post, she reflected on her journey, recalling, “I came to the United States a little over 13 years ago with almost nothing but a dream to work at NASA and lead breakthrough science and robotic operations on Earth and Mars.”

The path to this achievement was far from easy. Dr. Krishnamurthy earned her PhD from MIT, having previously obtained a Master’s from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Undeterred by the challenges, she tirelessly knocked on doors to secure a full-time position at NASA, where she now contributes to various space missions, including the Perseverance rover tasked with collecting samples to bring back to Earth.

Her LinkedIn profile reveals her role as a Principal Investigator and Mission Science Phase Lead at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, underscoring her significant contributions to space exploration. Dr. Krishnamurthy’s message to aspiring individuals is one of unwavering belief in oneself and relentless hard work. “No dream is ever too big or crazy.
